Today is the 577th birth anniversary of Srimanta Sankardev

Today is the birth anniversary of Jagadguru Srimanta Sankardev. On this auspicious day, the State is full of Guru Vandana. Hundreds of devotees have been seen gathering in different parts of Assam since morning.

Shankardev was born in 1449 AD in Alipukhuri in Bordowa. His father's name is Kusumbar Bhuyan and mother's Satyasandha Devi. Sankardev was brought up by his 'Burhimaak Khersuti' from an early age. Sankardev was enrolled in Mahendra Kandali toll when he was 12. Mahapurush Sankardev has established Vaishnavism, Ek Sharaniya Namdharma and has also made a mark in the Assamese Nation, Literature and Culture. Sankardeva was a Social Organizer, Playwright, Actor, Painter, Dancer, Lyricist, Composer and Possessed all virtues. Gurujona(Sankardev), the founder of the greater Assamese nation, unified the Assamese society by propagating spiritual-cultural values and Neo-Vaishnavism.
