CP Radhakrishnan declared winner for vice-president election

CP Radhakrishnan has won the election for the post of Vice President of India for the 15th Vice President of India. 

Governor of Maharashtra CP Radhakrishnan sailed through the election today, scooping up 452 first preference votes, leaving Opposition candidate and retired Supreme Court judge B Sudershan Reddy trailing with 300 first preference votes.

The polling process took place on Tuesday and the results were also declared. As many as 768 MPs voted in the election for the post of Vice President.

13 MPs abstained from voting. The NDA's 427 MPs cast their votes while all the 315 opposition MPs exercised their franchise. The MPs who did not cast their votes include 7 from the BJD, 4 from the BRS, one from the Akali Dal and one from the Independent. Turnout is estimated to be 98.2 percent.
