In India, Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated as a national holiday, with prayer meetings, tributes, and cultural events held across the country. Prominent political leaders paid tribute to Gandhi at Rajghat in Delhi.

Recognizing Gandhi's principles, the United Nations declared 2 October as the International Day of Non-Violence in 2007, further strengthening his global influence. 

Mahatma Gandhi was born on 2 October 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat. He became a key figure in India's freedom struggle against British rule with his non-violent policies for the betterment of the society and the nation and his movements like the Dandi March in 1947 and the Quit India Movement played an important role in securing India's Independence.
