Today is National Press Day

Today is National Press Day. This day is celebrated to the founding of the Press Council of India as well as to raise awareness about press freedom and the role of journalists around the world. Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma greeted all journalists on the occasion of National Press Day. National Press Day is celebrated on November 16 every year in honor of this special day.

It is to be noted that since 1997 the Press Council of India has been celebrating this Press Day by organizing seminars on relevant topics.

The theme of this year's National Press Day is Safeguarding press credibility amidst rising misinformation, highlighting the growing importance of accurate and ethical reporting.

In Assam too, various programs are being organized today on the occasion of National Press Day. The event is being organized by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Government of India at the Convention and Training Centre of the Public Works Department, Guwahati. The Guwahati Press Club has also decided to celebrate National Press Day today.
