Today is Vijaya Dashami. Effigies of Ravana are burnt in different parts of the country along with the immersion of Goddess Durga.

Today is Vijaya Dashami and its the last day of the 5-day Durga Puja festival. Devotees will bid farewell to Goddess Durga with tears in their eyes at the end of the Puja as per the rituals of Shashthi today. The festival of Durgotsav concludes with the immersion of the idols. Vijaya Dashami means the return of Maa Durga. Maa Durga will come back after a year of waiting. At the end of the 5-day puja, the puja pandals will fade.

On the occasion of Vijaya Dashami, Ravana Dahar programs are implemented in different parts of the state as well as the country. According to the Puranas, on this day, Sri Ramachandra killed Ravana, the king of Lanka, with the blessings of Goddess Durga. Dussehra or Dashami has been celebrated all over India since time immemorial in order to suppress evil and to celebrate the saints. As soon as the huge effigy of Ravana was burnt, people chanted 'Jai Shri Ram' and burst firecrackers and fireworks.
