PM Modi to visit Assam on September 13: Sudhakantha's birth centenary

The Prime Minister will come to Assam to participate in the birth centenary celebrations of Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika. It is noteworthy that he will be on a two-day visit to Assam. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Wednesday that "Prime Minister Bardiya was originally scheduled to come first on September 8 but the Vice President of India will be elected on September 9. Instead he will come on a two-day visit to Assam on September 13 and 14. So we will do all the programs related to the birth centenary of Bhupen Hazarika with the Prime Minister on the 13th. We will celebrate the beginning of the centennial on the 8th."

Tributes to Sudhakantha will begin with a year-long programme from September 8 this month. The programme will begin on September 8 with obituary at Bhupen Hazarika's burial ground in Jalukbari. Bhupen Hazarika's birth centenary celebrations will be held at Khanapara Field in Guwahati at the initiative of the state government. 

Another good news for the people of Assam is that on the occasion of the birth centenary of Dr Bhupen Hazarika, the Government of India has decided to give a commemorative coin of Rs 100 in the honor of Sudhakantha.  The Government of India has taken this remarkable step in honour of the birth centenary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika.

This currency has been issued by the Department of Economic Affairs under the Monetary Act 2011. This coin is circular in size and weighs 44 grams. The Rs 100 coin will be made of 99% pure silver. Like other currencies in circulation in the country this Rs 100 coin will be written on 'Satyameva Jayate' along with the Ashoka Pillar. Meanwhile, on the left side of the coin, 'Bharat' will be written in Devanagari script and on the right side 'INDIA' will be written in English. This coin will have the rupee symbol and 100 written on it.

          On the other hand, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma welcomed this decision of the Central Government and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making the centenary celebration of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika more special in a post on X (former Twitter).
