A woman who never gave up on her dreams

The journey of every candidate who cracks competitive exams is very different and special. Some go ahead by challenging their economic conditions and some go ahead by challenging society. But every journey and every story inspires us. Going to talk about the struggle of a woman named Babli Singh. The success of which will inspire every woman.

Hailing from a humble farming family in Gaya, Bihar, Babli Singh grew up with financial hardships. Her father, Tulsi Prasad, worked as both a small farmer and a school bus driver to provide for five children. With such limited resources, education was always uncertain. While her two elder brothers were forced to give up their studies to support the family, Babli clung to her dream of building a secure future.

Babli got married to Rohit Singh, a small businessman, in 2013 in Bodh Gaya.

Babli’s journey gained strength through the encouragement of her husband and in-laws. Her two sisters-in-law eased her household responsibilities, allowing her to dedicate time to her studies.

In 2015, Babli joined the police force as a constable in Khagaria, taking the very first government job that came her way. Though the job provided stability, she knew this was not the destination. She dreamed of reaching higher ranks through the BPSC (Bihar Public Service Commission). 

Life as a constable was demanding — 20-hour shifts, round-the-clock duties and constant fatigue left her with little energy for books. On top of that, when she was called for her BPSC mains, she was pregnant. Balancing her health, duty and studies seemed impossible. But Babli refused to let go. After two unsuccessful attempts, she was determined not to waste her third chance. Taking six months’ leave, she shifted to Patna to focus fully on preparation.

Her hard work bore fruit in 2022. Out of 689 posts, Babli secured the 208th rank, proudly earning the post of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). The officers she once saluted now salute her — a moment of poetic justice and immense pride. IAS officer Avnish Sharan himself tweeted her story, calling her struggle an inspiration for countless others.

Her message to every girl chasing a dream -“Don’t be afraid of obstacles. Keep working hard, keep your eyes on your goal, and one day, you will achieve it.”
