Raja Raghuvanshi murder case: Meghalaya Police filed 790-page chargesheet

Police have named Sonam Raghuvanshi, Raj Kushwaha, Vishal Singh Chauhan, Ashish Singh Rajput and Anand Kurmi as the main accused in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case.

On May 23, a sensational murder in Meghalaya shocked the entire country. The deceased Raja Raghuvanshi had come to Meghalaya with his wife for honeymoon were he was murdered. Raja Raghuvanshi, an Indore-based businessman, died of a conspiracy by his wife. Raja got married to Sonam Raghuvanshi on May 11 this year. After their marriage the couple came to Meghalaya from Indore, Madhya Pradesh on May 21. The couple had gone missing from Sohra on May 26. Accordingly a search operation that was launched immediately to trace them, Sohra police, SOT, NDRF, SDRF, trekking groups as well as locals from nearby villages. After several days of extensive investigation on June 2, a body was recovered from a deep gorge at Arlyang Riyat Kunonggrim, Umbalai near Wei Sawdong in Sohra and it was identified as Raja Raghuvanshi. In this regard, the case was registered under Section 103(1)/238(a)/309(6)/3(6)/3(6) of the BNS Act.

Sonam, who had been missing for several days, was later found near a dhaba on the Varanasi-Ghazipur highway. According to the police, a boy named Raj Kushwaha and Sonam conspired to kill Raja while the other three accused carried out the murder. Raja Raghuvanshi's wife Sonam Raghuvanshi, her boyfriend Raj Kushwaha and their associates Akash Rajput, Anand Kurmi and Vishal Singh Chauhan have already been arrested. All the arrested persons are currently in judicial custody. 

          The SIT of Meghalaya Police has filed a chargesheet in the court investigating the murder. On Friday evening, the police filed a 790-page chargesheet in the court of the judicial magistrate of Sohra sub-division.

          Adequate evidence and annexure along with the chargesheet have also been filed in the court. All the accused have been booked under sections 103(1) (murder), 238 (a) (destruction of evidence), 61 (2) (criminal conspiracy) of the BNS.
